I was procrastinating for a long time about my email list. I knew email was important – very important – yet, I still didn’t put much effort into growing my list. My list was stagnant. It was growing maybe 10 to 15 a week, but I’d lose that many or more each time I sent out a newsletter. My list was actually declining and finally, I realized that I needed to do something about it. An email list is something YOU control and own and you aren’t at the mercy of changing social networks and their finicky algorithms.
I implemented several changes with great results. In fact, so well that I got 1000+ email subscribers in 30 days! It is possible and it’s not that hard at all! I did have to invest in my list with some specific tools, but they are all business expenses that I can write off. You have to spend money to earn money sometimes.

How I Got 1000 Email Subscribers in 30 Days
Here’s how I did it:
1. Switch to ConvertKit. I wanted an email service with more functionality. ConvertKit makes it easy to send out content upgrades, allows me to segment my lists and is built for bloggers. I wrote about it already in my post, 8 Reasons Why ConvertKit Rocks. It was easy to switch over. It’s more expensive, but I think it’s worth it because my list is finally growing.
2. Change to a Weekly RSS Newsletter. I’m not sure if this is something that necessarily helped my list grow, but I’ll mention it anyways. I was sending out a daily feed newsletter. I decided to try weekly because it means less opportunity for people to unsubscribe.
3. Add some targeted content upgrades. I already had an e-cookbook, Tasty Chicken Recipes, that went out to new subscribers. However, since ConvertKit makes is so EASY to add ebooks, printables, etc to send out to new people who join your list, I decided to get a few more. I hired someone to make a Deep Cleaning Checklist printable and I added that form to my Household Tips posts. I’m also in the process of having a DIY Scrubs ebook made for my DIY Beauty posts.
4. Write a post with your content upgrade. People need to subscribe via the form in order to download the ebook or printable. I then shared this post on Pinterest and Facebook.
5. Get an email pop-up. I put this off for soooo long because I hate pop-ups. The thing is, though, that they really do work. I use MiloTree and set mine so that it shows up only every 4 days for people visiting my site. It comes in on the side and is unobtrusive. They are also approved by Google for mobile so you can still use it on your mobile site, too.
That’s pretty much it! It’s really not too complicated at all. I’d love to hear about what you are doing to grow your email list! If you have any questions, please leave them below in the comments.
