Several days ago, I shared my theory that Facebook was ghost banning recipe posts. I wanted to give you an update with some new information.
At first, I thought it was just recipes, but the longer it’s been happening, I realized it was not about recipes, but LINKS. Facebook has placed link bans on a growing number of pages, some with millions of fans. What this means is that every time an affected page shares a post (photo upload, link post, share of another page, video) with a LINK, Facebook will throttle the reach to a big fat ZERO. It’s like the post doesn’t exist in Facebook land. Any pages that share these throttled posts will also receive zero reach on that particular post.
Today is Day 6 for me. I can tell I’m still affected because I’m unable to preview any scheduled posts with links. How long will it last? I don’t know. One page said their link ban was lifted after a full 7 days. Another page in our Facebook group said she was still affected after the 7 days has past.
Getting help from Facebook is impossible. I posted in the Help community and got a generic answer that didn’t even relate to the question I was asking. I’ve pretty much given up trying to get help there at this point. I think they just copy and paste answers based on keywords in your question.
We have a Facebook group that is growing daily with bloggers affected. The up side of all this is that I don’t feel so alone as it’s happening to so many. There are small pages affected as well as some pages with millions of fans. The majority are food bloggers, but there are some pages that don’t even share food at all that have this ban.
If you are affected with zero reach on all posts with links, send me a message and I’ll give you the link to the Facebook group.
I’ll keep you posted on what’s going on so remember to subscribe to our newsletter or check back every few days.
Hopefully, it will be lifted soon. The only thing I’m glad about is that I didn’t get a tremendous amount of traffic from Facebook anyways. I still would like this issue fixed so I can share my recipes – the reason why people liked my page in the first place!
