We all know how hard it is to gain traction on Facebook with all the changes to their newsfeed algorithm. It’s gotten even more difficult these past few days for several food bloggers. Facebook is throttling the reach of all recipe content, including shares, uploads and videos, to the tune of 0 to 1 reach. I get that they are making it harder for pages to show their posts to their fans, but 0 reach? This, to me, seems like something bigger than that.
I know this because it’s happening to my page for the past two days. ALL recipes are being shown to 0 fans. It’s like Facebook knows it’s food and kills the reach. These posts are receiving ZERO interaction. It’s more than just a reporting glitch, in my opinion.
It’s frustrating because my Facebook page was all about food. My posts used to receive reach, even if it was small reach, it was at least something.
I’ve been experimenting with other types of posts to see if it’s my page or just the recipe posts itself. What I’ve found is that silly memes are getting reach, some DIY is getting reach, text only posts get reach and picture uploads with no links are getting reach. I discovered that some craft videos are also receiving 0 reach.
Is Facebook ghost banning recipes? I don’t know. For some pages, it seems they are.
One interesting finding is that I can tell when a post will receive no reach in the Facebook scheduler. When you go to preview the post, it will look like this.
Yes, I’ve tried reaching out to Facebook support several times. I’ve asked in their Help Community and submitted feedback. So far I’ve received no reply. It’s pretty much impossible to get a human who works at Facebook to help.
In the meantime, I’m cutting back on posting on Facebook and experimenting with different types of posts to see how deep this new change runs. I will keep you posted on this issue.
